Anar Abdulla (Abdullayev) is a freelance journalist and civil society activist. His activism dates back to 2012 when he joined the NIDA civic movement. In 2018, Abdulla joined the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center and began contributing to gozetci.az and other news outlets. In the past, he was subjected to arbitrary administrative arrests and persecution.

Abdulla was charged on April 8 at the Baku Police Headquarters in connection with the case of Anar Mammadli, head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center. Abdulla was charged with illegal entrepreneurship, legalization of illegally obtained property, smuggling, tax evasion (as part of an organized group), and document forgery.

He has been placed under police supervision, requiring regular police visits. Abdulla denied all charges.
