Hafiz Hasanov is a civil society activist and a lawyer. He led the Law and Development Public Union.
Hasanov was initially detained on March 14, 2025, during a crackdown that led to the arrest of several other civil society leaders. After a brief period of detention, Hasanov was released. However, on March 17, the investigative department of the General Prosecutor’s Office summoned him again and allegedly charged him with improperly processing grants from donor organizations. The accusation specified that he processed these funds under service contracts and received them as personal income rather than as grants.
On the same day, Hasanov was placed under house arrest. On March 19, 2025, the Appeal Court upheld the decision for his house arrest.
