Zamin Zakiyev is a social worker. From 2019 to 2021, he served as a Manager in the Social Worker and Youth Department at the Azerbaijan Social Work Public Union. In March 2022, Zakiyev founded the “Ubuntu Social Work Association,” where he worked as the Founder and Program Manager. The association focused on enhancing social work education in Azerbaijan by training both new and experienced professionals. The organization arranged free webinars and meetings with international experts and has pioneered the creation and translation of reading materials on inclusive social work in Azerbaijani.
Zakiyev was arrested on April 9, 2025, in connection with the broad NGO crackdown case. He was charged with the legalization of a large amount of property obtained through crime, abuse of official authority leading to grave consequences, and fraud. Prior to his arrest, Zamin was called to testify twice as a witness at the General Prosecutor's Office.
The Binagadi District Court placed Zakiyev under pre-trial detention until July 13, 2025.
